When it comes to Development, I would choose M.Karunanidhi and his golden period 1996–2001. It was one of the golden period of Tamil Nadu in terms of inclusive economic development.
During this period, Karunanidhi predicted that the future is in the service sector and formed IT regulation act. During that time, even Government of India didn't have the IT regulation act. After his announcement, in 200 0 government of India adopted the same. As the result of the IT act, Tidel park was built in Chennai which was considered as the largest IT park in the Asia, which was later claimed by Siruseri IT park which is also established during the Karunanidhi period.
Apart from Tidel park, Ford and Nokia came to Chennai is all because of Karunanidhi. Following the establishment of Tidel park, 1000+ Software companies was started in Chennai and it made Chennai as the deteroite of India. The master mind behind all these thing is, the former Commerce minister of India Mr.Murasoli Maran.
As a result of the IT revolution created by him, now at least one from the family is working in IT industry. And of course, many who are working in Tidel park post in Social Networking site that
“Karunanidhi didn't do anything for Tamil Nadu”
Note: Apart from Tidel park, SIDCO, SIPCOT and special economic zone was established first of it's kind in Tamil Nadu by Kalaingar M.Karunanidhi.
