Question: How important was K. Anbazhagan for DMK?
When DMK was formed, there were 5 big popular founding leaders.
- C.N. Annadurai
- N.V.Natarasan
- Mathiazhagan
- Nedulincheziyan
- Anbazhagan.
They were popularly called as '5(I)m perum thalaivargal'. Anbazhagan is the last leader to depart from that 5 popular founding leaders of DMK. He served as the Party's general secretary for the past 40 years and established himself as the brain of DMK, while Kalaingar Karunanidhi was the heart of DMK.
How important was Anbazhagan to DMK?
When M.G.R broke DMK and formed AIADMK, many leaders went behind M.G.R. One of the important leader who went behind M.G.R. was Nedulincheziyan (who was one among the 5 popular founding leaders of DMK).
But, Anbazhagan stayed with DMK. When DMK was not in the power of 10+ years, Anbazhagan didn't lose any hope and stayed with DMK itself. Because, he strongly believed on ideology based politics than vote based politics. Since he was strong with the Dravidian ideology, he stayed with DMK and harvested the same after DMK came to power. Unfortunately who went behind MGR, suffered a lot after the death of MGR. They literally lost their self-esteem and self respect. But Anbazhagan stayed with DMK and saved his self respect and self esteem. If he had gone to ADMK, DMK might have vanished. But his loyalty towards Dravidian ideology made him to stay with DMK and save DMK during the time of failure.
Anbazhagan is such an important person for DMK and Kalaingar Karunanidhi. When everyone left for personal benefits, he stayed with DMK and made the party ideologically strong.
DMK will truly miss this legend and his ideology.
Note: Many have commented that, he will remain in the 2nd position in the party and 1st position will be with Kalaingar Karunanidhi. He didn't believe on 1st or 2nd, he believed on ideology and self respect. He may be second in the party, but silently he was driving the person who was in the 1st place.
If Kalaignar Karunanidhi is the heart of DMK, K. Anbazhagan is the brain of DMK.
